Facebook image sizes at a glance
Facebook resizes every photo to several sizes and doesn't say which. The numbers it does publish are for Pages, link previews and its API.

Feed photos
A photo can be up to 10 MB, as a JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP or TIFF. Meta asks you to keep a PNG under 1 MB, or it can look pixelated. We read 10 MB as 10,000,000 bytes.
Facebook resizes every photo to several sizes and picks one for each screen, but it doesn't say which sizes, or how the feed shows a very tall or wide photo. We make 2,048 px on the long edge: sharp full screen and far under the cap. Facebook writes alt text for a photo itself, and you can change it before or after you post.
An animated GIF isn't supported as a photo. Resizing one here keeps only its first frame.
Carousels and several photos
Facebook doesn't have a swipeable photo carousel for ordinary posts: several photos in a post show as a grid, and Facebook doesn't say how many one post takes. An album holds up to 1,000.
What a Page can post is a link carousel, through Meta's API: 2 to 5 square cards, each linking to a site the Page owns, with images of at least 458 × 458 px. We make the cards 1080 × 1080. Carousel ads are a separate format, with 2 to 10 cards.
Profile picture and cover photo
A Page's profile picture shows at 176 × 176 px on computers and 196 × 196 px on phones, cropped to a circle. 320 × 320 gives the best quality, and PNG can work better for a logo or text.
A cover loads fastest as an sRGB JPG of 851 × 315 px under 100 KB. A Page's cover must be at least 400 × 150, and a profile's at least 720 px wide. Facebook crops the cover differently on computers and phones, and the profile picture covers part of its left side, so keep faces and words toward the middle and right.
Link previews
When you share a link, Facebook builds the preview from the page's og:imagetag. Use at least 1200 × 630 px, close to 1.91:1, under 8 MB. Below 600 × 315 the picture still shows, but much smaller, and below 200 × 200 it doesn't show at all.
Facebook caches the image by its address, so to change it, give the new image a new URL and set og:image:width and og:image:height so the first share shows it.
Stories
Meta takes story photos under the same 10 MB cap as feed photos but gives no shape for them. For story videos it recommends 1080 × 1920 (9:16), which fills a phone screen, so that's what we make.
Why we make these sizes
- Feed photo. Facebook doesn't publish a feed size: it stores several and picks one per screen. We stop at 2,048 px on the long edge, sharp full screen and far under the 10 MB cap. Facebook doesn't give this size, so it's our pick.
- Link carousel card. Meta asks for square cards of at least 458 × 458 px. 1080 × 1080 is well above that and sharp on high-density screens. Facebook doesn't give this size, so it's our pick.
- Page profile picture. Facebook says 320 × 320 px gives a Page's profile picture the best quality.
- Cover photo. Facebook says a cover loads fastest at 851 × 315 px, and it's wider than the 720 px a profile's cover needs.
- Link preview image. Meta asks for at least 1200 × 630 px for link previews on high-resolution screens.
- Story. Facebook gives no shape for story photos. It recommends 1080 × 1920 (9:16) for story videos, which fills a phone screen, so we use that. Facebook doesn't give this size, so it's our pick.
Does Shaflex post to Facebook?
No. Shaflex doesn't post to Facebook. It's a scheduler for Threads, X, Bluesky, Mastodon and LinkedIn: attach an image once and it's checked against each of those networks' media rules, and the same draft is fitted to each one's limit. The image editor works inside your draft: crop to a network's size, put a screenshot in a device or on a backdrop, and blur what's private.
See how Shaflex schedules for Threads, X, Bluesky, Mastodon and LinkedIn, how one draft goes to every network, and what the free plan includes.

Questions
What size is the Facebook cover photo?
Facebook says a cover loads fastest as an 851 × 315 px JPG under 100 KB. A Page's cover must be at least 400 × 150, and a profile's at least 720 px wide. Keep faces and words away from the left, where the profile picture sits.
What size is the Facebook profile picture?
320 × 320 px gives a Page's profile picture the best quality. It shows at 176 × 176 on computers and 196 × 196 on phones, cropped to a circle.
What's the best image size for a Facebook post?
Facebook doesn't publish one: it resizes every photo to several sizes. A photo can be up to 10 MB, and a PNG looks best under 1 MB. We make 2,048 px on the long edge, sharp full screen and far under the cap.
What size is a Facebook link preview image?
At least 1200 × 630 px, close to 1.91:1, and under 8 MB. Below 600 × 315 it still shows, but much smaller, and below 200 × 200 not at all.
Can I post a carousel on Facebook?
Not as a swipeable photo post. Facebook groups several photos into a grid. A Page can post a carousel of 2 to 5 square link cards through Meta's API, and carousel ads take 2 to 10 cards.
Write the next post once.
