Photo posts
A photo post holds up to 35 photos. People swipe through them, or let them play one after another, and you can add a sound, text and stickers on top. You choose which photo is the cover.
TikTok's help centre doesn't give a size, a shape, a file cap or the formats it takes. Its developer docs do, for photos posted through its API: JPEG or WebP, up to 20 MB each and 1080p at most. Its iOS share kit takes shapes between 1:2.2 (tall) and 2.2:1 (wide).
We make photos 1080 × 1920 (9:16). That fills a phone screen and stays inside the API's limits. If your photo is a different shape, choose Fit inside in the resizer to keep all of it, with a blurred copy or a colour around it, instead of cropping.

Each photo can have alternative text of up to 300 characters. Add it before you post under More options, or later by editing the post.

Profile photo
TikTok only says a profile photo has to be at least 20 × 20 px. It doesn't give a recommended size, formats or a file cap. We make 400 × 400, sharp at the size TikTok shows it. You can set a short profile video instead, and then the photo isn't shown.
A TikTok profile has no header or banner image to upload.
Why we make these sizes
- Photo post. TikTok doesn't publish a photo size. A photo post plays on a phone screen, so we make 1080 × 1920 (9:16): it fills the screen and stays inside the API's 1080p. TikTok doesn't give this size, so it's our pick.
- Profile photo. TikTok only says a profile photo must be at least 20 × 20 px. 400 × 400 stays sharp on high-density screens at the size TikTok shows it. TikTok doesn't give this size, so it's our pick.
Does Shaflex post to TikTok?
